AstroGeoFit Workshop

First Announcement – AstroGeoFit International Workshop – Paris, May 25-29, 2026

Last update :

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce an upcoming international workshop on AstroGeoFit, a novel approach and open-source Python package that allows the reconstruction of key orbital parameters of the Earth—and more broadly of the Solar System—from sedimentary records alone, over multimillion-year timescales, without relying on a priori astronomical solutions. By combining genetic algorithms with Bayesian statistical inference, AstroGeoFit jointly reconstructs sedimentation history and orbital forcing, even in time intervals where classical astronomical solutions become unreliable due to orbital chaos (https://www.astrogeo.eu/astrogeofit/).

The workshop is primarily aimed at researchers in cyclostratigraphy, astrochronology, stratigraphy, paleoclimate, and related fields, who wish to become familiar with this new methodology and its applications. Early-career researchers are welcome.

Workshop format

Morning sessions:

Didactic lectures, methodological introductions, data presentations, and case studies illustrating AstroGeoFit applications to various records. Participants are welcome to propose contributions. Preliminary results obtained by the participants during the workshop will be presented here.

A tutorial on statistical data analysis will be given by Nathan Hara throughout the workshop. A tutorial on Astrochronology will be given by Jacques Laskar.

– Afternoon sessions:

Hands-on practical sessions using the AstroGeoFit open-source software. Participants will work on their own sedimentary datasets, with access to local high-performance computing resources.

The goal of the workshop is that, by the end of the week, participants will be able to run AstroGeoFit independently and will have performed a first analysis of their own stratigraphic records.

The workshop will be limited to approximately 30 participants, ensuring strong interaction and effective hands-on training. Participants are expected to attend the full duration of the  workshop (May 25-29,  2026).

Workshop location

The AstroGeoFit Workshop will be held in the castle of Paris/Meudon Observatory in a privileged environment. A 10 min train ride from Paris Montparnasse railway station, followed by a 20 min walk.

Pre-registration to the AstroGeoFit workshop

Pre-registration is now open here. The dead line for pre-registration is March 15. After  March 15, no more funding will be granted. Participation could still be possible, but only if seats remain available, or for applications of exceptional interest.

Additional information will be updated regularly and sent to pre-registered participants.
