Jacques Laskar is a world expert in celestial mechanics. He has discovered that the motion of the solar system is chaotic (1989) and that without the Moon, the orientation of the Earth would evolve in a large chaotic zone, ranging from 0 to 85 degrees (1993). He is at the origin of the long term astronomical solutions for the orbital and rotational evolution of the Earth that have been used for more that thirty years by the paleoclimate community (Laskar, 1990, Laskar et al, 1993, 2004, 2011). He created, and continues to develop the computer algebra system TRIP devoted to celestial mechanics. He is the PI of the AstroMeso ANR project and of the AstroGeo ERC project.
