Thomas Westerhold is broadly interested in Cenozoic and Late Cretaceous Cyclostratigraphy, Marine Geochemistry, and Paleoceanography. His research topics are focused on paleoceanographic reconstructions for a better understanding of past changes in the global carbon cycle and their relations to deep sea-temperature evolution over the last 100 million years mainly using scientific ocean drilling.
